Overview

Below you will see real-time forecasts produced with the Model for Prediction Across Scales-Atmosphere (MPAS-A) . These experimental forecasts use a globally uniform-resolution mesh with 3.75-km cell spacing. The goal of this demonstration is to highlight the value of global convection-permitting modeling for forecasting weather from local to planetary scales, with a focus on capturing Atlantic hurricanes. Physics packages include scale-aware Tiedtke cumulus scheme, Thompson microphysics scheme, MYNN planetary boundary layer and surface layer schemes, and RRTMG radiation. Initial conditions are from NOAA's GFS.
